My name is Dr. Daniel Margolin and I am the Founder of Effective Management.

  My Story...  
  After finishing medical school over 17 years ago, I was at the time burdened with Student Loans of over $120,000 at an interest rate of over 16%. Although this was a huge barrier for me, I still opened my practice with all the excitement one expects on starting a new adventure. I was young enthusiastic and slightly naive. I actually believed that I had learned all that there was to learn about running a practice in medical school. The next 5 years proved this to be untrue as I suffered through staff problems, financial difficulties, lack of patients etc. etc.

I had initially taken out a business loan to get started and by my third year in practice I had gone through that loan and taken a second one. I went through most of the second loan over the next several years and was looking at closing the practice and still having debts of over $180,000 to repay with no way of doing that. This was as you can imagine one of the most difficult times that I can remember. I called a friend of mine who was located approximately 20 minutes from my office. He had started his practice at the same time that I did and with even a slightly greater debt load. I was sure that he would be doing poorly and figured we could share war stories over a few beers, misery loves company.

 
  A light at the end...  
 

When I called Peter (my friend) he surprised me by telling me how well things were going and how busy his practice was. I couldn’t believe it. How could we be 20 minutes from each other and he be doing well and I doing poorly. Peter was nice enough to invite me to his office and the place was mobbed. I was really impressed. It was at that point that it became clear to me that there was something to learn about building a practice and I needed to learn it. Peter sat down with me and explained that he received training in a new management system that I might be interested in.

This technology essentially taught him the rules of the game, including how to hire and deal with staff, how to market, how to organize etc. At the time this training was available in California and so I flew out and went through some basic training.

 
  A new beginning...  
  When I came back to the office I had a much greater understanding of what it really took to be successful in practice. I got to work right away and the practice went through the roof. I paid off all my business loans and student debt within the next 3 years. I became Chairman of my department at St Peters Hospital in New Brunswick and had 27 other doctors under me. I was blown away by the workability of this technology and as more and more friends and associates came to me for advice on their practices I decided to continue my studies. I completed further training at the Hubbard College in Los Angeles. I obtained my consulting degree and began consulting clients through a company called Clearly Platinum (The name was later changed to Effective Management). I was so successful as a consultant that I was asked to become a partner and eventually I bought the company. Over the years we developed more and more streamlined programs to make the clients progress faster and faster. The end result of those years of diligence is the Phase Programs you will read about shortly.  
  In summary...  
  As much as I still love treating patients, nothing gives me greater satisfaction then watching our clients learn to take back control of their practices and businesses.
